(mid-April at Kadena General Welfare Center, Kadena Fishing Port) With hopes for health and growth of our children, 400 Koinobori are raised over the mouth of Hija River. Aside from the Koinobori raising ceremony, river activities on sightseeing boats, canoes, jet skies are held.
(Sunday following May 4th of the lunar year, Kadena Fishing Port) As the townspeople pray for a maritime safety and bountiful fishing, we hold Dragon Boat Races by fisherman, various occupations and children.
(mid-July, Yara Castle Ruins Park) "Let's get back the clean waters of the Hija River" is the motto of the YOU-Yu-Hija River event. The raft regatta and other activities utilizing the river have gained wide acclaim and YOU-Yu-Hija River is fast becoming an important river festival within the prefecture of Okinawa.
(July 16 of the lunar year, Shinei Street) On this day, the entire street becomes "Pedestrian Heaven" (the street are closed to allow only pedestrian traffic). Rousing performances of the Senbaru Eisa and Eisas from other districts can be seen.
(the first Saturday and Sunday of October, Kaneku Seaside Park) At this festival held in honor of the achievements of Noguni Sokan, we aim for the further development for our town's culture. Sweet potato digging contests by the children and the All-Okinawa Bullfighting events are held and traditional dances like the Sembaru Eisa and live music are performed.
